Despite the fact that the NFL did not manage to carry out the pre-season matches, it managed to keep its season normally within the expected schedule.
The competition begins on September 10th, in Texas, with a match between defending champions Kansas City and Houston Texans. This is an atypical season for sports, however the NFL will still maintain its 17 weeks, with a date set to end on January 3, 2021.
Changes
All matches will be without a public presence, due to the Covid-19 pandemic. As in football, the NFL will also run daily tests as a way to prevent the infection of athletes, members of coaching staff and employees.
Some players made a deal with the League, some of them did not feel well and others were unable to play this season due to the pandemic. Thus, they made use of Opt Out where they receive from US $ 150 thousand to US $ 350 thousand, depending on the case of each player. Thus, more than 60 athletes made use of Opt Out, with the New England Patriots being the team most affected, losing some of their main names, such as Dont'a Hightower and Marcus Cannon.
Highlights
It is difficult to appoint favorites before the competition starts, however, there are those who arrive with a little more favoritism, even due to signings. Two teams that will arrive well for the season are the Chiefs and Ravens, who have the best QBs of the past seasons and have managed to retain some of their main players.
The San Francisco 49ers recently closed a very talked about contraction, being George Kittle, considered one of the best TEs at the moment. The Miami Dolphins team hired Tua Tagovailoa, one of the most exciting prospects today.
The Tampa Bay Buccanneers team hired none other than Tom Brady and managed to get Rob Gronkwoski out of retirement. Thus, having the duo Brady-Gronk, together with Mike Evans and Chris Godwin, which elevate the Bucs even further.
The Tennessee Titans, although not very prominent in recent seasons, managed to eliminate the Patriots on the wild card and beat the Ravens on the divisional. Thus, they made a move and managed to keep Tannehill and Derruck Henry in the squad, two of their main highlights. However, Marcus Mariota left the team for the Las Vegas Raiders.
Although the Patriots asked for Tom Brady, the team hired the Cam Newton player in June, a player the fans have hopes for. Jamal Adams moved to the Seattle Seahawks.
One of the main expectations of the Dallas Cowboys team is coach Mike McCarthy. Having a quality squad, the expectation is that the new commander will be able to do a good job.
The New Orleans Saints is always one of the teams to watch out for, usually they get in well and have high quality players. The Arizona Cardinals are looking good for this season, relying heavily on DeAndre Hopkins and legend Larry Fitzgerald. The Minnesota Vikings team beat the record for Draft picks and managed to sign Yannick Ngakoue.
